Day 6

What a busy day for the TechTigers! There was no regular meeting of robotics today [yes, even we take breaks every blue moon], but today was the Florida FLL States competition at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL, where a few team members were attending with FLL team 3947, the Robohawks, which 1251 mentors.

The competition started at 9 am, where after the check-in, a coaches meeting, and opening ceremonies, the Robohawks went straight into their presentation and technical judging. There was also a new competiton to the FLL judging this year, called the "Teamwork Award," where the entire team is brought into the room along with two mentors and presented a problem/task, to which they have to work as a team to try and find a solution to the issue. The team is judged on how well they work together and how communicative they are with each other.

After the presentations and lunch, it was time for practice, practice, and more practice, which the Robohawks did in abundance, while the team cheered for the our drivers whenever they were up.

...and out on the real field.

The day was not completely FLL-focused, however, as team representatives from the Roboticks [FRC team 408], ThinkPink [FRC team 233], and the TechTigers were all there, discussing the current FRC game Rack and Roll, strategies, and overall FIRST concepts. It was an awesome experience being able to see the various FRC teams helping out the next generation of FIRSTers and interacting with one another. Good luck to teams 408 and 233!

In the end, the Robohawks did not win anything at the state level, but they were excited for the experience, and were happy to have exceled at such a degree at the regional level to have qualified to attend this state competition. They are already looking forward to next year, and plan to do bigger and better than they did this their rookie year. Good job, Robohawks!
